In today's post I am sharing with you four great resources to help you learn and teach students about copyright. These resources are provided by the Copyright Advisory Network and are basically web tools designed to provide users particularly librarians with general guidelines and tips on a variety of issues related to copyright. These resources are :
1- The Copyright Genie
The Copyright Genie is a tool that will help you :
- Find out if a work is covered by U.S copyright
- Calculate its terms of protection
- Collect and publish the results (as a PDF) to save for your records or further vet with a copyright specialist
2-Fair Use Evaluator
This one will help you better understand the fairness"of a use" under the U.S Copyright Code. It will basically assist you organize and archive the information you might need to support a fair use evaluation.
3- Section 108 Spinner
This simple tool will help you determine if your reproduction of copyrighted materials is covered by Section 108. Section 108 of the U.S. Copyright Code allows libraries and archives, under certain circumstances, to make reproductions of copyrighted materials without the permission of the copyright holder.
4- Exceptions for Instructors eTool
You can use this tool to help you find out if your use of copyrighted materials meets the requirements of the U.S. Copyright Code which allows the educational use of copyrighted materials without permission of the copyright holder.
