Below is a collection of some iPad apps that have gone free today. As always, the deal is valid just for a limited period of time and only within certain countries like Canada and the States but I am not sure our colleagues in Europe and other parts of the world would be able to download them for free. I have only selected the apps that have some educational relevance for us as teachers and educators. Browse through this selection and see if you like any.
1- Swipy Notes (used to cost $ 0,99)
This is a fully featured note taking app that allows you to easily and quickly capture your notes. Notes you write on Swipy can be saved in different locations including: Dropbox, Facebook, email, Twitter, and Evernote.
2- Loop (used to cost $ 0,99)
Loop is a good app for students to use to create short hand-drawn animations on their iPads. Loop provides a wide variety of tools to help you create your animations, these tools include Onion skinning and expressive pens. Animations created through Loop can be shared via email, Tumblr and in the Loop gallery.
3- English Spanish Reference Dictionary (used to cost $ 0,99)
This is a great dictionary app for teachers and students who deal with English and Spanish languages. The app is fast and up-to-date and includes full, self-pronouncing conjugations with a variety of voices and dialects to choose from. It also works offline and provides tons of entries, translations, synonyms, definitions, examples,and idiomatic expressions.
4- Lists To-do (used to cost $ 0,99)
Here is a good app help you increase your productivity. As its name indicate, Lists To-do is an iPad app that enables you to easily manage tasks, lists, to-dos and checklists wherever you are with internet connection. The app also allow you to keep track of all your lists right from one single page.
5- iCross (used to cost $ 0,99)
iCrosss is a unique educational application which will help you learn solid geometry in an easy and funny way. It is basically an interactive encyclopedia of polyhedra. It allows you to build a cross-section of each available polyhedra by your defined plane. The plane can be defined by three points (taps) on polyhedron faces. The application supports such kinds of polyhedra as regular polyhedra (Platonic solids), Pyramids, Prisms, Anti-prisms and Archimedean solids and duals. Polyhedrons are displayed in 3D representation, which allows you to rotate it in any direction. Cool chalkboard drawing style and fonts were used for awesome look’n’feel. To build a cross-section you have to put three points on polyhedron faces in order to define a section plane.
